Ranks Explained
Alphas
Both alphas have equal power, though they are almost always mates. Alphas are in charge of keeping pretty much everything running smoothly. They make most of the big decisions for the pack.
Betas
There may be one or two betas. Assuming there are two, the betas are often times mates, but may just be both trusted friends of the alpha(s). Betas are the second-in-command. When the alpha is attending other matters, the betas take over the rest.
Captain
The captain is the head patrol. He or she runs a lot of patrol activities and training.
Patrols
Patrols are trained to fight. They're often strong and brave. They're the first ones to be sent out to battle, and they keep borders in check.
Hunters
Hunters are fairly self-explanatory. They catch larger prey for the entire pack. They must be fast and smart.
Pup sitters
Often a disregarded rank, although it's very important. Before pups are ready to start learning the tricks of their trade, and after they're weaned, the pup sitters take care of watching over little ones.
Patrol Apprentices
Patrols in training. Much of the training is done in classes led by the captain, but older patrols often teach them separately if they choose.
Hunting Apprentices
Hunters in training. They spend a lot of time in the field, observing hunts. After they've learned a bit from watching they are taught skills and then put to work.
Pups
Pups aren't old enough to start learning the skills for a rank. They're either still with their mothers or cared for by the pup sitters.
